St Augustine Chanukah 2017

First Coast.TV spoke with Rabbi Vogel and his wife Fraidy and learned that each year, during the holiday of Chanukah, Chabad of St. Augustine, with the assistance of the City of St. Augustine, sponsors a Chanukah Menorah Lighting Celebration in the heart of the old city. This community-wide festival is open to the public free of charge. The event features entertainment, holiday crafts and activities for the children, traditional Chanukah foods, and holiday kits. The highlight of the program is the Menorah lighting ceremony, as the mayor is honored with the kindling of the lead flame. The annual Chanukah celebration has become a highlight of the year for the St. Augustine Jewish community and a meaningful event for the community at large! This year’s event is scheduled to take place Wednesday, Dec. 13th at 5:30pm, at the gazebo at the Plaza de la Constitucion. It is an evening that celebrates the universal message of Chanukah; the triumph of good over evil and the infinite power of a single act of kindness and humanity.
