Johnson’s collection includes more than 50 works by Degas himself along with a collection of drawings, prints, photographs, and monotypes created by Degas’s inner circle of artists. Pieces offering a fascinating look at the artist’s life and time include works by Mary Cassatt, Édouard Manet, Jean Leon Gerome, Alfred Stevens, Camille Pissarro, and Paul Cézanne to name a few.

Mary Hubley at the Rotunda

Mary Hubley is an internationally recognized award-winning coastal artist. Her beach and marsh landscapes are dramatic yet soft, with rich colors and soft edges. She lives on a Florida island where there is a never-ending source of salt water inspiration for paintings. Her travels have taken her throughout North America, Asia, and Europe, where she is incessantly drawn to painting other coastal locales. Hubley spent many years doing corporate art and book illustration. She has won awards in international art competitions, most notably first place in the Smithsonian Institution’s WaterWays exhibit, an award of excellence in a 2018 National Oil and Acrylic Painters Society (NOAPS) exhibit, and an honor award in the 2018 Richeson75 Landscape show. Her work has appeared in two Richeson75 books, two “Best of America Artists” books, and “American Art Collector” magazine. She gives regular painting workshops and sells her work through prominent U.S. art galleries. Her art is now at the Rotunda at the St Johns Administration Bldg. at 500 San Sebastian View, St Augustine, FL.

Anna Meets the Poets

Anna Miller came to the Ancient City Poets reading on Sunday January 27th at the Corazon Cinema & Cafe in St Augustine. She met some of the poets for the first time. She thanked them for being part of her “Refractions” exhibition at the rotunda of the St Johns County Administration Building. The poets likewise thanked her for incorporating another form of art as poetry in her exhibition and allowing them to express themselves through her art. The poets read all the poems that are sharing a spot with her work at the rotunda to a packed house at the Corazon. It was truly a lovely afternoon. “Refractions” will be displaying till March 15th 2019.

Anna Miller’s Exhibit Opens

Longtime St. Johns County resident and artist, Anna Miller open her art exhibit at the St. Johns County Administrative Building’s Rotunda through March 1, 2019.  There was original poetry, produced by various poets via the Ancient City Poets organization, shown adjacent to Miller’s artwork.

The Grand Opening was January 15 from 8:15am-9:00am prior to the regularly scheduled St. Johns County Commission meeting.

“REFRACTIONS” and Anna Miller

My vision began to worsen early on in life. However, I often would not wear my glasses and would start seeing the world differently from the position of a nearsighted person. It was a world without details but with interesting designs, fragments of light with shadows, and incomplete patterns. One of my favorite examples of fragmentation was the fluid design created by light in moving water. The movement of light through water was captivating and meditative: It always brought peace to my soul. My paintings expressed refractions of light. Refractions comes from the observation and perception of color and light patterns found in nature. During painting of these new designs based on refractions, I would get lost in meditation of color, shapes, and lines, discovering limitless possibilities and combinations. “Refractions” also brought the Ancient City Poets of St Augustine FL to be part of this exhibition by bringing two forms of abstract together in one place. Anna’s art and the poems will be available for viewing in the Rotunda of the St Johns County Administration Building during normal business hours (8am – 5pm) from January 3rd, 2019. You are cordially invited to the official opening of “Refractions” in the Rotunda at 8:15am January 15th, 2019. Exhibition will be on display till March 15, 2019.

By Popular Demand “Portrait of an Artist”

People keep asking me (Jorge Rivera) about wanting to see the short documentary I put together about the artist (painter) Harry McCormick filmed here in NE Florida and NYC titled “PORTRAIT OF AN ARTIST”. Many people were not able to attend the first showing of it at the Corazon Cinema & Cafe in mid August. As you all probably know Harry McCormick is a world renowned artist, and St Augustine was lucky enough to have an exhibition of his art (July 3 – September 20) at St Johns County Administration Building. His art was also being displayed at The Vault 1930 Art Gallery in Jacksonville. So here it is, please enjoy.
