Steam Punk Comes to St Augustine

In an atmosphere of Celtic music brought to you by Jig to a Milestone, and belly dancers from Blue Lotus Belly Dance, Dos Coffee and Wine was packed with those you love Steam Punk art in all its flavors. The evening was merry, full of awe, artists, conversation, laughter and of course music. An evening to remember.
The art show was created and executed by Ashlee Raven of Raven Promotions and Social Media, and Ward Hughey of Bleeding Tree Entertainment. The duo hope to make the Old City Steam Art show an annual event.

Obelisks and the Artists Behind Them / Part I

First Coast.TV went to see some of the obelisks in the Compassionate St Augustine Project. These obelisks (25) will eventually be put all around the City of St Augustine as part of the 450th celebration. The obelisks are still being worked on by the individual artists responsible for each of them. Each one of them are really wonders of art. In part I we talk to three of these artists.

Compassion, Obelisks and the Artists

Aviles Street Gallery, Amiro Art + Design / Amiro Art & Found, Georgia Nick Gallery and Plum Gallery, in St Augustine joined together with Compassionate St. Augustine to welcome Pablo, here from Aviles, Spain, July 7 through 21 to complete his obelisk for the Obelisk Art 450 Tour of Compassion. The event to meet Pablo and other artists involved with the obelisks project took place on Sunday, July 19th.

Artist: Pablo Hugo Rozada Vena in Subtitles

Pablo Hugo Rozada Vena has come from Aviles, Spain as a well known artist to participate in the Compassionate St Augustine Project.
First Coast.TV caught up with him at an art studio as he worked on an obelisk with a Pedro Menéndez theme to it. He spoke in his mother tongue Spanish to our camera about his art, the project, and his impressions on St Augustine. We placed subtitles to share his thoughts with our English speakers.

Compassion Through the Eyes of Children

St. Augustine is Florida’s First Compassionate City and the Obelisk Project is part of the process.

The mission is to influence, inspire and grow a culture of compassion in St. Augustine through advocacy, awareness & action. The meaning of compassion, was interpreted by St. Johns County students, as they unveiled their obelisks last night, as another leg of Compassionate St. Augustine’s public obelisk art project.

Over 400 students in 28 schools participated in painting and decorating 4-foot obelisks that are now visual representations of compassion awareness.

The project is part of the Obelisk Art 450 initiative where 25 professional artists were selected to express their interpretations of the foundational values of the Spanish Constitution — freedom, democracy, human rights and compassion.
