St Augustine Spanish Wine Festival 2015 (Sept.12)

The Grand Tasting had something for everyone! This event took place under the Big Air Conditioned Top on the Grounds of Mission Nombre de Dios in Historic St. Augustine. It provided the opportunity to sample more than 125 different Spanish wines, which is the largest collection of Spanish wines on display in America. The event also featured samplings of Spanish-inspired hors d’ oeuvres. Each guest received a laser etched commemorative glass.

The attendance was strong, and by the video and photos of First Coast.TV, one can see they all had a wonderful time.         

450 Candles Already! St Augustine!

A long-standing tradition in St. Augustine has been that when celebrating the city’s birthday, there is always birthday cake, and this year’s commemoration of the city’s 450th anniversary, Celebrate 450!, was no different.

The afternoon began with a two-hour performance by local bluegrass band, The Driftwoods, performed from the Gazebo at the Plaza de la Constitucion,  starting at 12 p.m.

At 2 p.m., the official ceremony, began with the reading of the official proclamation by Mayor Nancy Shaver and then the St. Augustine Royal Family, assisted by city officials. Several varieties of cake were then available to the public, served from the Public Market.

Entertainment continued with  the band Mid-Life Crisis which offered a variety of pop, rock, disco and country classics. The music continued until 5 p.m.

“Ensemble Español” Took Our Breath Away

First Coast.TV caught some highlights of the Ensemble Español performing in St Augustine on the evening of Sept. 6th 2015.
They stimulated the audience’s sense of beauty through music, movement of dance and the awesome color. They were absolutely fabulous!

Que Viva España! Fiesta 450!

Part of the Fiesta 450 was the Viva España segment, which featured a FREE Spanish-themed musical salute to St. Augustine directed by Gary Cadwallader on the main stage of the St. Augustine Amphitheater (4:00-5:30pm). Local arts organizations participating in this performance were the St. Augustine Orchestra, the St. Augustine Community Chorus, the St. Augustine Youth Chorus, Limelight Theater, and First Coast Opera. First Coast.TV took a walk through town to see all the things going on, the day after the three Spanish bands (Tejedor, Alexandra in Grey and Morrigans) rocked the house at Flagler auditorium.

Spanish Bands Rock The House

On September 3rd, three bands from Aviles, Spain came to the Flagler Auditorium and rocked the house. They proved that superior musicians produce superior and amazing music.

The bands were, Tejedor, Alexandra in Grey and Morrigans, and they played to a full house. The bands were hosted by The St Augustine Sister City Association, Inc.. It was truly an amazing evening of music.

Interfaith Service was a Spiritual Banquet

The Interfaith Service on September 1st, at the First United Methodist Church on King Street, was a remarkable and enlightening moment for our community.  The broad spectrum of spiritual beliefs represented at the event was amazing. The vibration present, was one of peace, harmony and understanding. Words become lacking in its description, only being there could really explain what was said, and how that plural message was transformed into one positive light.

Interfaith Commemoration 450th Anniversary

The Interfaith Community of St. Augustine hopes to bring people of different faiths together through an interfaith commemoration to be held September 1st during the city’s 450th anniversary.

The Rev. Ken Wilcox is senior minister at the Center for Spiritual Living St. Augustine and has played a major role in planning this event, so Jorge Rivera of First Coast TV got a chance to visit the center and talk to him about this wonderful upcoming event.
