St Johns County COVID-19 Press Conference

St. Johns County held a press conference at 4 p.m. today March 24th, in the Emergency Operations Center, 100 EOC Drive, St. Augustine, to discuss St. Johns County’s response to COVID-19. The conference included a question-and-answer session with representatives from St. Johns County, Florida Department of Health, St. Johns County Emergency Management. Representatives from other agencies, including the City of St. Augustine, the City of St. Augustine Beach, St. Johns County Sheriff’s Office, and emergency medical services were also be present.

Veterans Day 2019 in St Augustine

Leading up to Veterans Day, the 46-foot long Traveling Vietnam Wall made its way from St. Cloud with an escort of motorcycle riding veterans. It arrive at the Elks Lodge 829 on Nov. 10 and was erected at the Anastasia Baptist Church atrium on Monday. Doors to the church opened at 9 a.m. where the Traveling Vietnam Wall and the 24-foot long War on Terrorism Wall were on view along with dozens of displays presented by regional veterans groups. At 11 a.m., the program in the church started with the posting of the flag by St. Augustine Sea Cadets Color Guard, and followed with music by the St. Augustine High School Arts Ensemble Singers and St. Johns County Center for the Arts Chamber Singers, led by Jeff Dodd and the the Liberty Express Quartet.The keynote speaker was Judge Howard McGillin, COL USA (Retired).

Over the past 10 years, the Northeast Florida area has experienced great developments in business, population, and sophistication. Many industries have kept pace with this growth, holding large-scale events and moving business operations to the area. However, the travel industry in the region seemed to be missing the evolution. The Florida Travel Expo was created to fill that void. First Coast TV had a chance to sit and talk to the mind behind this Expo, Dorothy Flannery.

Dancing Stars Of St Johns County

The St. Augustine Community School of Performing Arts presented “Dancing Stars of St. Johns County,” a lively competition along the lines of  the popular TV show, “Dancing with the Stars,” and featuring entrants from St. Johns County. The event took place on the stage of the Lewis Auditorium on Saturday, July 6, 2019, at 7:00 p.m.

Local celebrities teamed up with professional dance instructors and competed in front of a panel of judges for two awards: People’s Choice and Judge’s Choice.

The fundraiser benefits the community programs of the St. Augustine Community School of Performing Arts, whose mission is to give the community the gift of music through private vocal and instrumental lessons, ensembles, summer outreach camps, private scholarships, and more. Sponsors of the event include Arthur Murray Dance Centers and Murray Automotive Group.

Dancing Stars SJC 2019 Gets Ready

First Coast went to Arthur Murray Studio to see the first dancers to participate in the Dancing Stars of St Johns County 2019. They were all there to find out all that it entails to be a dancer in this event. Lots of positive energy, and they got a sample of the different styles of dance they can choose from for the event. The proceeds of this event is to benefit SACSPA (St Augustine Community School of Performing Arts, Inc) and help it to continue its current serving of hundreds of community members including St Augustine Youth Services (SAYS), THE PLAYERS Championship Unit of St. Augustine, Boys & Girls Club of Northeast Florida and Coquina Crossing Chorale. Their long term goal is to establish an educational organization where they can provide quality musical education to under-served youth through gifted interns and master instructors.

Venardos Circus Returns to St Augustine

The Little Circus That Could

The Venardos Circus held its first performance in 2014
at the LA County Fair.

Created by former Ringling Bros. Ringmaster Kevin Venardos, the show featured a cast of 6 artists in a kind of Broadway/Circus Musical. It was just a little Circus… but it had great BIG dreams.

In the years since, Venardos Circus has grown into a living example of the power of dreams, reinventing the American Circus tradition for a new generation, and bringing joy to people everywhere.

Back to St Augustine with a whole brand new show to amaze and delight! Dec. 19th 2018 thru Jan. 27th 2019
